For Matt Oworu and Ben Lesage, Friday night’s qualifier in Calgary is more than just a pivotal stop on the road to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

“The Rugby Canada marketing department could probably attest I’ve been lobbying for games in Calgary for years,” said 29-year-old Lesage, of the game on hand versus the rival United States at McMahon Stadium (7 p.m., TSN2).

“My very first tour in 2016, there was a game here in Calgary, and I haven’t played here since then,” continued Lesage. “So this is like a homecoming, and obviously I’m much further along in my career since then. Just super special to be back.
