MADISON (WKOW) -- A 7-year-old is recovering after being bitten by a neighbor's dog on Thursday.

Madison police said they were called to Coho Street, near W Beltline Frontage Road, around 3:40 p.m. on Aug. 21 to help Public Health Madison Dane County's (PHMDC) Animal Control unit.

While officials were on scene, they were able to secure the animal. EMS took the 7-year-old to the hospital. Police said her injuries were not life-threatening.

A spokesperson for PHMDC told 27 News that the dog had a history of incidents, including a documented bite in December 2024. The owners were cited and given muzzle restrictions. The owners surrendered the dog after the most recent bite.

The dog is at the Dane County Humane Society and will "likely" be put down.
