Conservative attorney George Conway in Bethesda, Maryland on August 22, 2025

On Friday morning, August 22, the news broke that FBI agents were searching the Bethesda, Maryland home of former National Security Adviser John Bolton, who served in President Donald Trump's first administration but is now a scathing critic of him. And one of the people who was present outside Bolton's home during the search was attorney George Conway, one of Trump's most vehement critics on the right.

The agents were reportedly looking for classified documents, and Conway brought up the fact that classified documents were at the heart of one of former special counsel Jack Smith's criminal cases against Trump.

On X, formerly Twitter, The Daily Mail's Philip Nieto posted video of Conway outside Bolton's home.

Conway, in the video, said of Bolton, "I mean, if he's got classified documents, my view is, well, he has to answer for that if he's got them — the way Trump should have. On the other hand, if it's just about harassing him because he said uncomplimentary things about Trump — many of them in his book about Trump's mental capacity and ability to understand foreign affairs and simple things — that's not legit. And that would seem to be the real concern that Donald Trump has. Because he clearly doesn't care about what's classified and what isn't."

Nieto tweeted, "Press are lining up outside John Bolton’s house in Bethesda, MD, as the FBI raids his home."

In a separate tweet, Nieto wrote, "George Conway stopped by Bolton’s house in the middle of the FBI raid. He says Bolton should be held accountable if he is illegally storing classified documents 'the way Trump should have' during his Florida case. He has not recently spoken to Bolton."

Conway, who also lives in the Washington, DC area, noted, "I've driven by here thousands of times. Well, not thousands, a lot. Because my daughters have friends here in Bethesda, and they go to school here. I know where John Bolton is, because this is a main drag, especially for commuters."

Asked to comment on the FBI search, Conway responded, "We'll have to see what the search warrant affidavit says."

Donald Trump, Jr. tweeted, "Someone’s gonna have to explain why George Conway was already at John Bolton’s house at the crack of dawn."
