LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- A Michigan Democratic Party activist has filed an ethics complaint against U.S. Rep. John James (R-Mich.), accusing the gubernatorial candidate of using taxpayer resources to promote his campaign.
Joel Rutherford alleges James deployed a House staffer and printed signage bearing campaign messages at a Wednesday school-supply giveaway during a minor-league baseball game in Utica, Michigan. The complaint, sent on Friday to the House Committee on Ethics, calls the conduct an "abuse" of taxpayer funds and states that James is using his public office to "advance [his] private political ambitions."
