However, he noted that the Fed planned to proceed cautiously as it continues to weigh the impact of tariffs as well as other policies such as tighter immigration rules that Powell said has led to an “abrupt slowdown in labor force growth”

Following the speech, stock market indexes surged, even though Powell gave no clear indication about when rates may be cut.
