NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A magistrate judge in Nashville ordered an El Salvadoran immigrant to be released from custody in Tennessee and returned to Maryland before trial, according to a report from the Associated Press.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been in federal custody in Tennessee since June. He is charged with human trafficking, stemming from a traffic stop in Putnam County in 2022.
On Friday, August 22, the magistrate judge approved his release from custody until his trial begins. That date has yet to be set.
