Law enforcement officers are camping on top of a scaffolding structure to support local Special Olympics athletes.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics is holding its annual Free Our Finest fundraiser at the South Red Deer Walmart this weekend. The scaffolding structure was built next to the west entrance for the event, which is set to wrap up on Sunday, Aug. 24.

"We're raising funds all weekend long," said Korey Cleland, City of Red Deer community peace officer and LETR's central region co-chair.

"The money we raise will help Special Olympics athletes with their travel costs, equipment, uniforms — anything that they need to compete in their sport. If events like this don't happen, then the athletes don't have the financial backing they need to focus on thei
