It's been close to three months since the temperature in Red Deer has spiked to 30 C, and those yearning for a blast of heat may get their wish next week.

A high of 28 C is expected Monday, before hitting 30 C on Tuesday, and 29 C on both Wednesday and Thursday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada's seven-day forecast.

Meteorologist Crawford Luke said the temperature rose to 27 or 28 C for a few days in a row near the end of July and the beginning of August in Red Deer, but the last time it climbed into the 30s was on May 29 when it reached 31.6 C, and May 31 when it hit 31.2 C.

"Certainly the next week leading up to the Labour Day weekend looks like it's going to be pretty warm, pretty dry, lots of sunshine," Luke said.
