LEAVENWORTH COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) - A Leavenworth woman who was arrested earlier this week for an alleged drug-related death of a three-year-old has now been sentenced for a previous theft.
Leavenworth County District Attorney Todd Thompson announced that 40-year-old Tara Ann Huerta stole more than $1,500 in merchandise from a Walmart on April 12, 2024. On Friday, she was sentenced to a year in prison for the crime.
After police were dispatched to the store, employees said Huerta had left without paying for items in her cart and had switched barcodes on merchandise to avoid paying full prices.
Huerta was arrested a week ago in connection with a toddler who died of acute fentanyl toxicity earlier this year. In that case, Huerta and 34-year-old Kenneth Hedgecock were arrested, three months
