KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man serving a life sentence for the murder of his wife is arguing his innocence in the Missouri Court of Appeals.

The family of Gene Birdsong , a man they believe was wrongfully convicted of the murder of his wife, says they expect to appear in court within the next month to fight for his freedom.

In February 2023, Birdsong was convicted by a jury in Jackson County, Missouri, leading to a life-long prison sentence with no chance of parole.

The Kansas City Police Department says that in November 2018, law enforcement officials were called to the area of Roanoke and Madison Ave. with reports of a deceased individual found nearby. When they arrived, they found Tabitha Birdsong, who had sustained multiple head injuries and a stab wound.
