PHOENIX — The Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board is holding a closed-doors meeting Friday evening to discuss safety measures following the death of a student on the Maryvale High School campus.

The school board is scheduled to hold an executive session to consider matters related to school safety, as well as have a discussion regarding Maryvale, according to the board's agenda. Members of the public are not allowed to attend executive sessions and minutes of these discussions are kept confidential.

Public boards typically cannot take official action during an executive session. If they were to vote on an item, then that must be done in a public setting.
