BEDFORD — Altrusa of Bedford members met August 11 at the Southland Church of Christ Annex and assembled 255 book bags for Head Start and Playful Pathways preschoolers, the service organization said.
Volunteers will deliver the bags and read to children in the coming weeks. Each bag includes a new book, a coloring book, and 24 crayons. Promoting literacy, a core mission of Altrusa, was noted by club leaders.
Mary Barnes briefed members on the qualifications for the district’s Distinguished Club designation. The Bedford Club has earned the honor for many years.
Members also announced several upcoming activities: volunteering at the Bedford Lions Club Pancake Festival on October 4 and distributing forms for the annual nut sale at the September 8 meeting.
