HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A Conway man is facing 78 charges after 39 hounds were seized as part of an animal cruelty investigation conducted by Horry County police, the agency said Friday.

Herbert Dozier, 64, faces 39 counts of ill treatment of animals. He was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center late Thursday afternoon.

Officers received a tip from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources about the care and treatment of the animals in the Merritt Road area, Horry County police said. The officers noted multiple animal violations, including dogs tied to trees and placed in improper kennels.

The dogs were seized and transported to the Horry County Animal Care Center for assessment, treatment, and care, where they remain as of Friday evening. Police said the animals
