AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 44) — The University of Houston-Victoria is switching teams. Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 2361 on August 22, moving the school from the University of Houston System into the Texas A&M University System.

Under the new law, UHV will officially become Texas A&M University – Victoria on Sept. 1, 2025, making it the 12th university in the A&M System. The move marks one of the largest higher education realignments in Texas in recent years and positions Victoria for a larger role in the state’s economic and educational future.
