ST. LOUIS - It’s another trip around the sun for this active turtle with a figure-eight shape.

Peanut, the turtle, is turning 41. Peanut overcame adversity, as her figure was the consequence of littering, trapping her in a plastic ring.

The Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center is holding a birthday shell-a-bration Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Visitors can hear about this turtle’s story: caught in a six-pack ring, found by conservationists.

“A Six pack ring from sodas or drinks,” said Matthew Cavanaugh, Naturalist, Missouri Department of Conservation. “They found this wrapped around her shell. That was on her shell for five years before we found her, in our estimation.”
