BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WV News) — WVU Medicine United Hospital Center welcomed 19 new college students to its Aspiring Nurse program Friday afternoon, a program that will supply each student with up to $25,000 to help pay for everyday expenses.
Ashley Bugby, a registered nurse and the nurse educator for UHC, explained that in exchange for a three-year work commitment at the hospital, each student will receive the money across four semesters to help pay for various day-to-day expenses.
"The money isn't a scholarship, but rather for life expenses and things that come up that could cause them to need to drop out of school due to a financial burden it could cause," Bugby said.
