COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - As Texas A&M enters game week for the 2025 football season, defensive coordinator Jay Bateman said there are two names inked into the Aggie starting lineup: defensive captain Taurean York at linebacker and cornerback Will Lee III.

“Will Lee has, like, stepped on the gas,” Bateman said. “He’s left no doubt that he’s improving every day.”

To that end, Lee himself was left scratching his head when he did not read his name on the Jim Thorpe Award preseason watch list, which was released in late July.

The Thorpe Award honors the top defensive back in college football; an honor Lee believes is his “next level.”
