SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A funeral service was held on Friday for retired New York State Police Sgt. Frederick Scheidt, Jr. The service took place at Bethesda Episcopal Church.

Scheidt died on August 13 at age 67 from complications of an illness originating from his assignment at the World Trade Center following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.

He retired in 2009 after serving 30 years with NYSP. His last assignment was with Troop G in Saratoga.

Roads were closed in the city of Saratoga Springs on Thursday and Friday to facilitate the funeral escort. He is survived by his wife and son.
