On the same day he was set to celebrate the release of his new album, rising rapper BigXthaPlug was arrested and charged with illegally possessing a handgun and less than two ounces of marijuana.

The 27-year-old hip-hop star — whose legal name is Xavier Landum — was taken into custody Thursday night in Dallas, just ahead of his album release party at the city’s Cash Cow nightclub.

According to a Dallas Police spokesperson, BigX was pulled over around 8:45 p.m. when “officers observed a vehicle without a front license plate.” When police approached the pickup truck, they observed the presence of marijuana and asked the rapper if he had a firearm, which he confirmed he did.
