A female driver died late Friday morning after her vehicle hit a guardrail on Highway 17, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded at 11:23 a.m. Friday to a crash on northbound Highway 1 north of Jarvis Road. For unknown reasons, a female driver in a sedan collided with the center median barrier, the CHP said. The vehicle traveled in a northeasterly direction and collided with a metal guardrail on the east shoulder of northbound Highway 17. The sedan caught fire, and the driver sustained major injuries from the crash. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel after life-saving efforts.
The CHP said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Anyone with potentially helpful information is asked to call CHP dispatch at 831-796-2
