A young teen was taken into custody on Friday in South Bay with a backpack laden with drugs, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
Investigators say that deputies were "conducting surveillance" at about 10 a.m. near the intersection of 3rd and Orange avenues in Chula Vista when they spotted a man with what appeared to be a heavy backpack. The man then met with a boy, who he handed the knapsack to, they said, and the boy then went into a liquor store nearby.
The deputies said they then conducted a truancy check on the minor, who turned out to be 13 years old, and discovered 5 kilograms of fentanyl in the backpack.
Investigators were also arrested the man, who law enforcement officials identified as Martin Corona, 19, who the sheriff's department said is on probation for felony
