CHEYENNE — Jim Ehernberger lives and breathes transportation preservation and railroading.
His career kickstarted in the waning days of the steam engine, back when railroads began to manufacture trains that relied on diesel fuel. Alongside working on the railroad, he also had a passion for photography and historical preservation, which still rings true today.
In the spring, Ehernberger submitted one of his photographs for a national competition by the Center for Railroad Photography and Art called the John E. Gruber Creative Photography Awards, and won third place. He took the photo in 1959 near Horse Creek, north of Cheyenne.
