PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Trump administration has halted construction on the offshore wind farm being built off 15 miles off Rhode Island's coast.
In a statement issued Friday, Ørsted announced that the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has issued a stop-work order for Revolution Wind — the 704-megawatt wind farm that's expected to power over 350,000 homes across Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The global wind energy developer noted that Revolution Wind is 80% complete, with all offshore foundations installed and 45 out of 65 wind turbines in place.
The BOEM in its letter to Ørsted cited an executive order signed by President Donald Trump earlier this year to suppress the offshore wind industry.
