DETROIT -- Zach McKinstry celebrated Central Michigan University Night at Comerica Park by coming within a double of the cycle, leading the Tigers back from an early deficit for a 7-5 win over the Royals on Friday.

McKinstry, who was a standout shortstop for the Chippewas in 2015 and ‘16 before the Dodgers selected him in the 33rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft, changed his walkup song to the CMU fight song for his first at-bat on Friday in honor of the occasion. He promptly sent a Ryan Bergert fastball deep to right-center for his 11th home run of the season and the Tigers’ first hit of the game.
