LEO-CEDARVILLE — Week 1 of the football season can come with some sloppiness.
Class 3A No. 2 Bishop Luers experienced that Friday at Leo, when its bid for an upset of the Class 4A No. 13 Lions was hampered with a trio of costly penalties in the closing stretch.
One player who was in midseason form, however, was Leo two-way star Nathan Foster, who led the Lions to a 14-7 victory with 20 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown at running back and a key interception on defense.
“A good recipe for winning football games — we were able to run the ball a little bit, played good defense and we were good in the kicking game,” Leo coach Jason Doerffler said. “We’ll take it.”
