OMAHA, Neb. —

The Nebraska Humane Society and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are teaming up to raise awareness for what they call a serious issue. Both said they've had reports of off-leash dog attacks or violations multiple times a week. Now, they're starting targeted patrols to help stop them and educate dog owners.

Long-time friends Randy Hartge and Richard Jones walk their dogs, Jake and Bailey, every single day.

"We've been walking the dogs for 20 years, that's why we're so fit," Hartge said with a smile.

However, the duo's walks now look a little different.

"They will not go within a city block of where they got attacked," Hartge said. "Bailey, little Bailey, just stopped and sat down."
