TYLER, Texas — Christus Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital celebrated a major medical milestone on Friday.

Doctors, patients and surgical teams marked their 500th ion bronchoscopy procedure — a cutting-edge method designed to locate potentially cancerous lung nodules before they spread. Early detection means better outcomes for patients.

"It's been key in diagnosing early-stage lung cancers, picking things up before they spread to other parts of the lung. the ion has been a lot more user-friendly — easier for us to use — and we've had much better success than with previous platforms. This has truly been a game changer over the past 16 months, helping us diagnose lung cancers earlier and get people treated sooner," said Michael Hunter, interventional pulmonologist Christus Trinity Moth
