MICHIGAN CITY — Daequon Fields has been the right thing at the right time for Michigan City football.
Wolves coach Cody French scouted against Fields this time a year ago. Fields was at Portage, primarily playing running back. A transfer at the end of last school year brought him to Michigan City, where French envisioned him running the ball, sure, but primarily wreaking havoc as a 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive end.
So far, so good.
Fields returned a fumble 81 yards for a touchdown as part of a 31-0 win against Hanover Central in his Michigan City debut. It was one of five turnovers the Wolves forced. Senior linebacker Izaiah Gipson also scored on a fumbled snap on a Wildcat punt.
