With several starters missing due to various reasons, the Loveland High football team held its own for much of its season opener against Pueblo West on Friday at Ray Patterson Stadium.

Looking to avenge a 42-0 loss to the Cyclones in last year’s opener in Pueblo, the Red Wolves kept the game close before Pueblo West pulled away in the middle quarters, scoring 10 unanswered points in the second and third periods to claim a 17-7 victory.

“We ended up kind of in a weird situation with our first two quarterbacks not eligible tonight,” Loveland head coach Allan Jeffries said. “So, we had to run a Wildcat with the receiver taking snaps.
