DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — As part of a pilot program, the Douglas County School District plans to try out metal detectors at select high school football games this fall.

“It’s a pole that they walk past,” said Superintendent Erin Kane, when describing how the detection process will look and operate.

Kane says her district is looking to be proactive versus reactive when it comes to school safety, adding, the move is not related to any “specific incident.”

She adds: the district's Security Director is working closely with school resource officers to determine which games the detectors will be used.

There are a total of four detectors. Schools play at three stadiums. Total cost: $100,000.
