After twice falling behind Pope John Paul II out of Hendersonville, the Lakeway Christian Academy Lions roared back to within a point before ultimately falling 34-27in the season opener.

Behind strong play from the Knights’ quarterback Isaiah Batten, the Lion found themselves trailing 21-7.

A touchdown pass from Josh Vineyard helped cut the lead with a touchdown pass to Bryson Allen, but the conversion failed, a fact that would come back to haunt the Lions later.

Batten pushed the lead back to two scores with a TD pass to Sam Bowers. Austin Stephen drove home the conversion to make it 28-13.

The Lion refused to go quietly. Vineyard hit Meade Coston for another TD, cutting the lead to 28-20 with the PAT. The quarter ended with the Lions within shouting distance.
