Nerves? What nerves? OK, there were a few butterflies for Center Grove sophomore Oscar Sloan in his first start at quarterback Friday night.

“I’ve been preparing my whole life for this,” Sloan said. “So I just feel confident.”

A quarterback can feel a little more confident with a strong defense and running game. And those two areas are typically staples of the best of the best Center Grove teams through the years. Both were on display for the Class 6A third-ranked Trojans in Friday’s season opening 24-6 victory at No. 6 Warren Central.
