INDIANAPOLIS — Family and friends of 3-year-old Kamauri Williams honored him Friday with a balloon release.

Aunt Courtney Dixon said it felt like deja vu when she got the call from her sister, Korie, last Sunday, telling her Kamauri was dead.

"I never thought I would get that phone call again," Dixon said. "He was the miracle my sister needed."

Kamauri's parents, Korie Bankhead and De Mauri Williams, lost their first child in 2019 after he was born premature.

Police said Bankhead came home to find a door open and Kamauri missing. She and a neighbor later found him in a retention pond. The neighbor pulled him out and started CPR. Kamauri later died at a hospital.

"Korie and De Mauri were awesome parents," one family member said.
