IRWINDALE — After an uncharacteristically slow start in the season-opening game vs. Schurr, the Rio Hondo Prep football team returned to form in the second half, but suffered a big loss in the process.
Rio Hondo Prep running back Noah Penunri was knocked out of the game late in the second quarter. He left by ambulance for further evaluation and didn’t return to the field.
The Kares were able to rally without their two-way star and picked up a 20-9 win in Friday’s season-opener.
Immediately following the game, Rio Hondo Prep coach Mark Carson said that the decision was made out of an abundance of caution and he is optimistic for a quick return for Penunri.
“He’s going to be fine, we think. Just taking precautions, they wanted to take him in,” Carson said.
Carson was proud of the way hi
