The track has an unlikely source of inspiration, which Hozier, real name Andrew John Hozier-Byrne, explained during an appearance on stage. Fans shared the origins of the song to Reddit, with the wild experience dubbed "hilarious".

Explaining a rough night of drinking and a subsequent last-minute flight had inspired the song, the 35-year-old shared that who he was sat next to on the flight made all the difference for Too Sweet. Academy Award -winning actor Cillian Murphy had been sat next to Hozier on the plane, and the unlikely crossover informed the Unreal Unearth track.
