SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Start them young!
A new resource to promote STEM lessons opened in Suffolk Friday, the STEM Academy at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, part of Old Dominion University's Lab School Network, a partnership with multiple Virginia schools which aims to develop STEM-related education by enabling new and innovative learning opportunities. Booker T. Washington is one of nine schools in the network.
The goal is to get more students interested in careers in science, technology, engineering and math by providing a hands-on educational experience.
"The best part about that, these are elementary school kids, so they're at their beginning when they want to learn about career pathways we don't even know exist yet," said Janice Hawkins, ODU vice provost of academic affairs
