'I’m the only gay in the whole block but that doesn't stop my neighbours'

For one week every year, John Smeaton Court has become a bit of a tourist attraction.

Michael Blair has lived in the block for the last few years and says there is a ‘real community’ of neighbours there who will do anything for each other.

And he doesn't know exactly how or when the tradition started, but it is one that has been enthusiastically taken up by all living in the Piccadilly building.

Every year, the residents of John Smeaton Court celebrate Pride by decking their outdoor area out with colourful flags - and they’re now becoming a bit of a tourist attraction.

Each of the apartment balconies are usually covered with flags and banners in the build-up to the event, which runs from Friday to Monday (August 22-25).

“As far as I know, I’m the only gay in the block but it doesn’t m
