WASHINGTON - A group of legislators including U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce want to clear up a Food and Drug Administration bottleneck on approving new sunscreen ingredients.
Observing the FDA hasn’t approved a new sunscreen filter or active ingredient since the 1990s, the South Russell Republican and other members of the Congressional Skin Cancer Caucus introduced bipartisan legislation aimed at speeding up approval.
“As skin cancer rates continue to rise across the country, it’s unacceptable that sunscreen innovation has remained virtually stagnant,” said a statement from Joyce, a melanoma survivor.
