ALBANY – State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) is calling on the State Department of Environmental Conservation to get involved in remediating an issue of strong sewage odors in “key public spaces” throughout the Town and Village of Monroe.
In a letter to DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton, the senator said the issue “appears to be connected to the movement of waste through local infrastructure in surrounding municipalities before it reaches the county’s Harriman Wastewater Treatment Plant.”
Skoufis said while some efforts have been made by local officials to correct the problem, there has not been a comprehensive solution. “In the meantime, residents continue to experience significant impacts to their quality of life, including hindering play at the newly opened Airplane Park Playground
