As summer winds down, there are a few significant issues that require close attention and a lot more discussion before we get immersed in fall budgeting and mid-year election campaigns. Spoiler alert — none of it concerns Aspen’s traffic-congestion nightmare.

In Aspen, Snowmass and Pitkin County, there’s a lot of angst over the possibility of significant property and sales tax increases. There also is concern about the issuance of bonds that the powers-that-be say won’t hurt us but very likely will increase the cost of tangible goods and services that we use on a regular basis. What you hear from our elected and appointed officials is not always the whole unvarnished truth, particularly when the increased revenues are intended for their pet projects.
