Chaos erupted this week as Jerome School District tried out its new bus system for the first time.
In the first week of running its own bus system, the district ended up canceling school on Thursday and Friday after logistical issues on Wednesday led to long rides, angry parents, and kids who were unaccounted for.
That’s going to change when schools open back up on Monday, Superintendent Brent Johnson said, after the district made the “unprecedented step” of canceling school for two days.
Last school year, the district bused 950 students on its peak day, but ridership increased to more than 1,300 this week, Johnsons said.
