Former NBA player Shawn Kemp was sentenced to 30 days of electronic home monitoring after shooting at two men inside a vehicle at a mall parking lot in Washington state in 2023.

According to the Seattle Times, the 55-year-old Kemp is mandated to start home monitoring within the next two weeks. Kemp was also sentenced to 240 hours of community service and is under Washington state's Department of Corrections supervision for the next year.

Kemp had originally pleaded guilty to an assault charge in May, and prosecutors wanted Kemp to serve nine months in jail, pay restitution and have a year of supervision.

Authorities said that the March 8, 2023, incident started when Kemp's vehicle was burglarized, with his phone and basketball memorabilia among the items stolen. Kemp tracked his phone to a Toyota 4Runner and attempted to talk to the driver about the missing phone. The phone was then tracked to the Tacoma Mall, where Kemp encountered the same 4Runner.

Court documents said a man in the back seat of the 4Runner fired a gun at Kemp, who then fired back at the vehicle. The two people in the 4Runner were not injured.

Kemp, a six-time NBA All-Star, was best known for playing for the Seattle SuperSonics from 1989 to 1997, also suiting up for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Orlando Magic, before retiring in 2003.
