We’ve seen this game a lot lately. The Cubs offense struggled. The defense was fantastic. The pitching was very good. This has been the formula for most games for a while now. As this team remains on the periphery of the best teams in baseball (only four teams have more wins), this is what this team has evolved to. For those of you who don’t like Jed Hoyer, accept this team as Jed’s waking nightmare. He famously made the quote a few years ago that the best teams weren’t necessarily good at close games. The best teams are good at blowing people out.

If that’s the case, then this in fact isn’t one of the best teams anymore. The flamboyant team that was wrecking teams has gone into hibernation and doesn’t peek out very often. I do wonder if one of the things that has happened in baseball is
