A funfair in Whitley Bay has been closed following a serious injury incident involving a ride. Emergency services were alerted shortly before 2.15pm on Saturday afternoon at the Spanish City Summer Funfair, which was bustling with families enjoying the bank holiday weekend.

Ambulances and the Great North Air Ambulance Service were dispatched to the scene to assist the injured individual. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed they received a call at 2:13pm regarding the incident. They stated, "We dispatched a rapid response paramedic, a clinical team leader, an emergency ambulance crew and the air ambulance. An off duty medic was also supporting the patient. We are still currently on scene (3:09pm)."

Northumbria Police also responded to the situation. A police spokesperson noted, "Shortly after 2.15pm today, we received a report of concern for the welfare of a man at Spanish City Summer Funfair in the Spanish City Plaza area of Whitley Bay in North Tyneside. Emergency services are currently on scene. The fair has been closed to the public and will remain closed until further notice."

In a statement, North Tyneside Council confirmed the closure of the funfair due to the emergency incident, stating, "The Spanish City funfair at Whitley Bay is closed. This is due to an emergency incident. Further updates will come from Northumbria Police."
