Tragedy struck the set of Emily in Paris Thursday after assistant director Diego Borella collapsed and died during filming. He was 47.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the Emily in Paris production family,” a Paramount Television Studios spokesperson told People in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

Borella was pronounced dead in Venice, Italy at around 7 pm local time on Thursday. His death occurred as the crew was preparing for a scene inside the city’s Hotel Danieli, reported local news outlets La Repubblica , Il Messaggero and Corriere della Sera .
