Detroit — Spencer Torkelson has been a front-row witness to so many of Jack Flaherty’s crimes against hitters the last two seasons, he can almost predict an outcome after a couple of pitches.

Like last Monday , when Jeremy Pena, first batter of the game, took Flaherty’s first-pitch, 95.6-mph four-seam fastball, darted at the bottom rail of the strike zone. He knew right then the Astros’ leadoff hitter was in trouble.
