Malachi Boateng was the goal hero for Plymouth Argyle as they finally clinched their first League One win of the season at the fifth attempt by beating Blackpool 1-0 at Home Park.

The Pilgrims ended their four-match losing run at the start of their league campaign with an excellent 48th minute finish from Boateng and a strong defensive showing.

It was a first victory for Tom Cleverley as Argyle’s head coach and will give everyone at Home Park a big boost after a very challenging period since their relegation from the Championship last term.

A first clean sheet for the Pilgrims was another of the plus points to come out of the match, with goalkeeper Luca Ashby-Hammond displaying excellent handling of the ball throughout, and some good decision-making too when to come off his line.
