The 30-year-old singer and actress defended Americana and encouraged fans to see it in a statement on her Instagram story on Thursday (August 21). Americana opened to only $500,000 at the box office for its first weekend , having been released amid online backlash against Sydney Sweeney .

Despite the low performance, Halsey is standing by the movie. The singer encouraged fans to support the director and the movie, calling the backlash against her co-star “gossip.”
