A man was rescued Saturday morning after his sailboat capsized in high surf off Central Avenue in York.

The incident occurred a little after 8 a.m. when the harbor master called for help from first responders because a sailboat was in distress with one person on board, according to a Facebook post .

Crews arrived to find the boat in danger of capsizing and began preparing for a shore-based water rescue.

Before rescue swimmers could launch, a large wave pushed the boat onto nearby rocks. At first it was unclear if the occupant had been thrown overboard, but rescuers soon confirmed he was still aboard, conscious and alert, though the vessel was taking on water.
