ROSELAND, La. (WVUE) - Black smoke billowed against the horizon early Saturday (Aug. 23) as crews worked to extinguish the fire at Smitty’s Supplies in Roseland.

“The biggest thing that we can come away with this is there were no injuries,” Tangipahoa Parish president Robby Miller said at a morning news conference. “We thank the Lord for taking care of all the people that were there.”

Miller had praise for Smitty’s response, saying remediation crews arrived within 2-3 hours of Friday afternoon’s explosion, which was reported shortly before 1 p.m.

“Smitty and their partners have done everything they can possibly do to contain this,” Miller said.
